October 14th, 2023:
This photo was taken after we arrived in Zambia.
We spent the night in Livingstone where we had a traditional Zambian dinner
This photo was taken at the Nakambunsi Primary School. Part of our volunteer work required us to meet with year groups ranging from year 3-6. This involved teaching the students English and reading books with them.
ZEEC Camp in Sioma
In preparation for our volunteer work on Monday, we took the time to prepare by reading the books we had brought with us.
Visiting the town of Sioma
After volunteering at local primary schools for the first part of the day, we spent our afternoon visiting the local town of Sioma.
Sankandi health clinic
Adjacent to the Sankandi Primary School, the Sankandi Health Post was built with the help of the ZEEC organization. It was put in place to help pregnant women as well as provide treatment against HIV.
Senaga Special School
On the first week of our trip to Zambia, we spent our time volunteering at either the Nakambunzi or Sankandi Primary School. However, as Wednesday was declared National Prayer Day, local schools were shut down so we took a day trip to the Senaga Special School: a school and home for children who were hard of hearing or had other disabilities. We had the opportunity to take a tour of the boarding school, as well as learn some American Sign Language from some of the students and staff on campus.
Botswana, Chobe National Park
We spent the second week of our trip in Botswana and stayed for 2 days at Chobe National Park. During the day, we explored the National Park both in cars and boats, encountering hippos, lions, elephants, impalas and leopards, where as during the night, we slept in tents within the park amongst the wildlife.
